Countryside treasures
Banda Abou is where you’ll find those roadside treasures you’ll find nowhere else in the world. ABC Curaçao has several routes that take you all the way West, along the Northern route or the Southern route.
Southern Beaches
Route 3C takes the Southern route from Otrobanda to Landhuis Knip and/or Playa Kenepa, via St Willibrordus.

- 01:50 PM – The next 3C Lagun bus will take you all the way to one of Curaçao’s most famous (and most beautiful) beaches, Playa Kenepa for a lovely afternoon of fun on the beach.
- 06:02 PM – Take the bus back to town and enjoy the amazing colors of a Curaçao sunset along the way.
Impressive nature of The North
Route 9A takes the Northern route from Otrobanda to Westpunt, via Groote Berg and Christoffel Park.
- 07:00 AM – Take bus 9A Westpunt at the Bus Terminal in Otrobanda.
- 07:26 AM – Get off the bus at Landhuis Daniel. Just behind the house there’s a popular hiking trail called ‘Bahia di Daniel’ which can take you as far as the North Side of the island. Make sure you bring enough water, your phone is charged, and you have GPS and an offline map of the island on your phone.
- 09:38 AM – Take the next 9A bus from Landhuis Daniel to Christoffel Park.
- 10:00 AM – At Christoffel Park you can visit the Savonet Museum to learn more about the area’s history from the period of the Arawak indians until the slavery period, the abolishment of slavery and the independency of Curaçao in 2010. There’s a lot to do here so you can choose to stay in the area for a while for an excursion, a hike, or a tour or you can take the next bus to Westpunt.
- 11:45 AM – The next bus will take you for the last stretch to Westpunt. Here you can have lunch at Jaanchie’s; Curaçao’s oldest restaurant with an abundance of birds, the iconic walking menu, and one of the island’s best places to eat iguana.
After your lunch it’s just a short walk from the restaurant to Playa Piskado (just go right at the painted trees) to enjoy some leisure time at the beach and maybe even snorkel with turtles. - 04:29 PM – The bus back to Willemstad leaves from the Catholic church which you’ll find when you go up the stairs at the end of the beach.

European influences
The part of the island to the East of Willemstad is called Banda Ariba (or Bandariba for short). This is where you’ll find many of the more ‘touristy’ spots of Curaçao with strong European influences. ABC Curaçao has several routes that take you as far East as possible.
Beaches of the East
Route 6A Caracasbaai runs along the Southern coast of the island from Punda and Pietermaai to Mambo Beach, Caracas Bay, and Jan Thiel.
- 07:30 AM – Enjoy breakfast in Punda or Pietermaai before heading to the bus terminal next to the central post office.
- 08:30 AM – Take bus 6A Caracasbaai for a short ride to Mambo Beach.
- 08:41 AM – From the bus stop it’s a short walk (~2 minutes) to the entrance of the beach. Here you’ll first see all kinds of shops for all your beach essentials and then you can choose where to spend your morning on the beach. From down-to-earth Wet & Wild to the upscale Madero Ocean Club or maybe you prefer the Bohemian vibes of Mood Beach; there’s something for everyone, even if you bring the kids.
- 02:26 PM – After lunch it’s time to move along with bus 6A.
- 02:39 PM – Get off the bus at the roundabout of Caracas Bay for an after-lunch stroll along the water.
- 03:54 PM – Back at the roundabout you can take bus 6A again for the last short stretch to Jan Thiel.
- 03:57 PM – Jan Thiel is home to several beach clubs and restaurants and if you make this trip on a Saturday you can enjoy one of the biggest happy hours of the island between 5 & 6 PM at Zanzibar Beach. And since you’re taking the bus, feel free to enjoy a couple drinks responsibly.
- 07:00 PM – Your ride back to Willemstad comes with a complementary beautiful sunset.
Malls and shopping areas of Willemstad
Beaches and culture are all good of course, but sometimes you just want to go shopping. There are quite a few shopping areas and malls that are definitely worth a visit and ABC can take you there.
- 08:00 AM – Take bus 1B Schottegat at the Bus Terminal in Punda.
- 07:41 AM – Get off at stop Neptunusweg and cross the road to go to Promenade Shopping Center. Here you can have breakfast at De Dames, a popular breakfast/lunch spot among tourist and local people alike, and then browse the available shops.
- 10:47 AM – Take bus 1B at the same stop where you alighted, just to the next stop. In theory you can also walk to the next mall because it’s in between this stop and the next, but the traffic can be bad and there’s no proper footpath here.
- 10:48 AM – At the next stop you can walk back a little bit to arrive at Zuikertuintje Mall. This airconditioned mall features a little bit of everything; fashion, body care, jewelry, and even a candy store and a book store. They also have several coffeeshops and restaurants for a quick pick-me-up or early lunch.
- 01:52 PM – Take bus 1B in the opposite direction at the stop across the street from where you got off, back to Punda.
- 02:09 PM – Our historic city center is great for shopping of course and while you do this you can slowly make your way across the bridge to the bus terminal in Otrobanda. If you have time it would be worth your time to take a small detour through the Riffort and Renaissance Mall for some more unique shops and gift stores.
- 03:15 PM – Take bus 3C Lagun to Sambil Shopping Mall.
- 03:24 PM – Get off at the Mina Scharbaai stop right in front of the mall. The airconditioned Sambil Mall is the largest Mall of the island and features many different kinds of shops, a good food court, and plenty of activities for children of all ages. They even have their own movie theater right in the mall.
- 05:38 PM – Take bus 8A back to Otrobanda or go back later if you’re not done yet. Several lines stop at the bus stop here and you can use the ABC Curaçao app to keep an eye on the scheduled times and be at the bus stop well in advance.
